The manufacturer has the freedom to choose the assessment body with which he wishes to establish relationships in order to evaluate his products.
There are eight modules that regulate the product compliance process, marked A to H. Modules aim to limit the number of applicable procedures.

There are many certification bodies in the European Union. These bodies must be accredited and notified. Any accredited body has a unique identification number. Each body is accredited by one or more directives and can not issue certificates under other directives for which it does not hold accreditation.
